The Trachycarpus is a tough outdoor plant that originally grows at high altitudes in the Himalayan mountains. The Dutch nickname of the Trachycarpus is Henneppalm or Handpalm and it belongs to the Aracaceae family. Trachycarpus is a hardy plant that will survive our winters outdoors very well!
Trachycarpus is a real sunbather and needs this light intensity to stay beautiful and healthy. However, this also makes it a very thirsty plant! It is beneficial to give the Trachycarpus some extra nutrition during the summer months. This way, you will support its growth and development. Use Palm food for this and never give more than the recommended amount.
As mentioned, Trachycarpus is a thirsty houseplant and especially in the summer months it needs some water every day. In summer, the soil should absolutely not dry out but also beware of too much water. You should avoid having a layer of water in the pot. If there is too much water, the leaf tips will turn brown or black. You can prune these leaves. In the winter months, the soil is allowed to dry out a little between waterings. The plant also uses less during this period.
The ideal position for Trachycarpus is in a place with plenty of sunlight. The palm is hardy and this means it will survive temperatures down to -10 degrees Celsius. When temperatures get even lower we recommend protecting the palm with a special winter cover.
The leaves, stem and juices of Trachycarpus are not poisonous, so it really is an animal-friendly plant. However, we advise against consuming the leaves or incorporating them into food.
This trendy palm is shipped in a cultivation pot. All our plants are shipped in specially designed shipping boxes.
