The Strelitzia Reginae is a popular and well-known plant. Who is not familiar with the beautiful flowers of this houseplant? The Strelitzia Reginae is nicknamed the Bird of Paradise and with good reason. The Strelitzia Reginae gives a unique atmosphere to any room, even when the plant is not in flower. The Strelitzia Reginae belongs to the banana plant family (Musaceae). They are closely related to each other but there are plenty of differences. The biggest difference in the plant is the leaves. The leaves of the Strelitzia Reginae are thick and strong, they are almost impossible to break. The leaves of a banana plant, on the other hand, are very fragile and tear easily.
This flowering houseplant originally comes from South Africa, but by now it can be found in almost all tropical and subtropical regions.
The Strelitzia Reginae is known for its wonderfully beautiful orange and blue flowers, but not every Strelitzia Reginae will come into flower. First of all, the green houseplant will have to be four to five years old before it will flower. Proper care will increase the chances of it flowering. The attention and energy you put into the Strelitzia Reginae will pay off in these amazing flowers!
The Strelitzia Reginae is a large houseplant and therefore requires a lot of water, especially in the summer months. When watering the Strelitzia Reginae, give it enough water so that the soil is completely dry after about a week. Check this in the beginning, and after watering every other day, feel how the soil is doing. If, after three days, you feel that the soil is dry again, then water more if necessary to keep the Strelitzia Reginae healthy. In the winter months the soil can be a little dry before the next watering, as the Strelitzia Reginae uses less water in the winter months. Be careful not to over-water in the winter months as this can lead to root rot. We also recommend watering the Strelitzia Reginae once a week. This helps keep the plant healthy, removes dust from the leaves and acts as a preventative measure against pests.
Light requirements Strelitzia Reginae - 160cm
The Strelitzia Reginae originates from a climate where the sun almost always shines. This easy houseplant likes a position with plenty of light. When you place the Strelitzia Reginae in a spot with direct sunlight, we recommend that you allow the plant to get used to it. Slowly build up the direct hours of sunlight.
If the Strelitzia Reginae is placed in a spot with too little light, the plant will drop its leaves.
The Strelitzia Reginae is a slightly poisonous houseplant. If you touch the plant, nothing will happen to it, but it is not advisable to eat the leaves. You should therefore consider where to place it when there are small children or animals present.
This tropical houseplant will be sent in a pot. All our houseplants are sent in specially designed boxes.
