Nowadays there are between 25,000 and 30,000 different species and they are also called Phalaenopsis. These species differ from each other in colour, size, frequency of flowering and the manner of growth. In nature, this easy houseplant mainly grows in trees, crevices and rocks.

Water requirements Limelight orchid (Phalaenopsis) - 70cm

You may think that the Limelight orchid needs a lot of water because of its flowers, but this is not true. However, the potting soil of the orchid should always be slightly moist. Make sure there is no water in the pot, however, as this will not benefit the health of the Limelight Orchid. We advise you to always pour the water on the substrate and not on the plant itself. The best way to water is to remove the plant from its pot (if possible) and place the entire root ball in the water for 5 to 10 minutes. This allows the roots to absorb the water well and also prevents the plant from standing in a layer of water. Make sure the plant is drained thoroughly afterwards, otherwise you will end up with a layer of water at the bottom of the pot.

The right location is important for the Limelight Orchid. It prefers a place with a lot of light but no direct sunlight. When this houseplant gets too much sunlight, its colour will be duller and its leaves will be damaged. This tropical appearance does not like a place in a draught or close to a heater. These two factors can damage the plant and increase the risk of pests.
