There are different types of Cordyline plants. There are family members of the Cordyline Australis Red Star with green leaves and pink leaves, but there are also Cordylines with a totally different shape. The Red Star is the odd one out in its family, as it is the only plant that is hardy.
This tropical plant is really easy care despite coming from a tropical climate. The fact that Cordyline Australis Red Star is also hardy makes it an ideal outdoor plant that also brings with it a great atmosphere. However, it is wise to give the plant some protection during very wet periods, because an excess of water is not so good for the health of this plant.
It is important that the soil of the Cordyline Australis Red Star is always slightly moist in both summer and winter periods. Be careful not to give the plant too much moisture in rainy months, as a water surplus can easily lead to crown mould.
This plant likes sunlight, so a spot in the sun or normal daylight is perfect. Be careful with too much sunlight in the beginning, because this plant is raised under filtered light. So if you buy this plant in the summer, let it get used to the sunlight gradually. Furthermore, this plant likes a sheltered spot. Do not place it in the wind or in a draught.
The juices of the Cordyline can be toxic if ingested. So be careful with curious pets or small children.
