The Cordyline Australis Red Star is a real eye-catcher because of its special red colour. Cordyline Australis Red Star is a member of the Asparagus family and is native to New Zealand and Brazil. The plant is the outlier in its family, though, as it is the only plant that is hardy. The rest of its relatives are intended only as houseplants.
This tropical plant is really easy care despite coming from a tropical climate. The fact that Cordyline Australis Red Star is also hardy makes it an ideal outdoor plant that also brings with it a great atmosphere. However, in very wet periods it is wise to give the Cordyline Australis Red Star some protection, because an excess of water is not so good for the health of this plant.
It is important that the soil of the Cordyline Australis Red Star is always slightly moist in both summer and winter periods. Make sure that the plant does not get too much moisture in rainy months because an excess of water can easily lead to crown mould. Once your Cordyline Australis Red Star has crown mould, it is difficult to get rid of. So it is best to move the plant to a more sheltered spot after the summer so it does not get all the rainwater.
This plant likes the necessary sunlight, so a spot in the sun or semi-shade is perfect. Be careful with bright sunlight in the beginning, as this plant is raised under filtered light. If you place Cordyline Australis Red Star in the hot sun all at once, it could get burnt. So if you buy this plant in the summer, let it get used to the sunlight gradually. Furthermore, this plant likes a sheltered spot. Do not place it in the wind or in a draught.
The Cordyline Australis Red Star is absolutely not poisonous when touched, but we always advise against consuming or incorporating the leaves or other parts of the plant into food.
