The Calathea Warscewiczii is an unusual houseplant with an amazingly beautiful appearance. The top of its oval-shaped leaves are green, each with its own markings. The underside of these leaves are deep purple in colour. Originally, Calathea plants come from the Amazon region and are true shade plants.
What makes this houseplant really special is that the leaves really seem to 'live'. In the evening, the leaves close and open again in the morning. The Greek name for this houseplant is 'kalathos', which means basket or basket and refers to its leaves.
The Calathea Warscewiczii is a houseplant that needs a little more attention and care than any other houseplant. However, in return you get a very special houseplant that will stand out in any room. The older leaves will show fading leaf markings, this is a natural process and these leaves can easily be cut away. If the plant is placed in an environment with low humidity, it will become less healthy. You can see this yourself because the colour intensity and shapes will become less beautiful. We recommend watering the Calathea Warscewiczii weekly to keep it as healthy as possible.
Despite being a shade plant, the Calathea Warscewiczii consumes a relatively large amount of water. It is better to give this houseplant small amounts of water several times than a large amount all at once. In summer, this houseplant can use up to two watering sessions a week, as the substrate should always be slightly moist. In the winter months, the Calathea Warscewiczii uses less water, so it also needs less water. The amount and frequency of watering is different for each plant. So we advise you to test this in the beginning.
The Calathea Warscewiczii needs little light, making it the perfect plant for a bare corner of your home. A position in semi-shade and without direct sunlight will benefit this houseplant. Too much sunlight affects the leaves and this will lead to brown edges along the leaves. The Calathea Warscewiczii originates from the jungle and likes high humidity. We recommend watering this houseplant regularly and not placing it near a heater.
Calathea Warscewiczii is a child- and animal-friendly plant because it is totally non-toxic. Nevertheless, we advise you not to consume this houseplant or incorporate it into products.
