The Murdannia Loriformis is still a relatively new houseplant, but it has recently become extremely popular. Originally, this houseplant comes from China where they use the oil from the plant for traditional medicine. The oil is mainly used to increase general resistance. In the Netherlands, we use this houseplant mainly because it has such beautiful leaves. This is also the reason why the plant got its nickname 'Bright Star'. The leaves almost seem to be made of real silver and the green edge of the leaf makes this even more apparent.
The Murdannia loriformis is not a difficult plant to maintain. With a minimum temperature of 5 degrees and a maximum temperature of 35 degrees, this plant can handle almost all Dutch seasons. In the winter, the Bright Star is in its 'resting mode' and requires almost no care. If you would like to give your Murdannia loriformis an extra boost with extra nutrition, we recommend doing this in early summer. This will give the plant time to develop before it enters its resting phase in the winter.
It is important for this houseplant that the clod always stays slightly moist. The soil should not dry out completely, but neither should there be a layer of water in the pot. The frequency and amount of water depends on the temperature and the amount of sun this houseplant gets. In general, one watering a week is sufficient. In the beginning, feel the soil a little more often to see if it is still slightly moist. If not, give it a little extra. Too much water can cause root rot.
The Bright Star loves the sun but the sun can also be a nuisance to this eye-catcher. Direct sunlight is not a good friend of this houseplant. The Murdannia Loriformis will look best in a spot in the half-shadow.
This houseplant is absolutely not poisonous. You do not have to be careful with small children and pets.
Your Bright Star will be delivered in a cultivation pot. All our houseplants are sent in specially designed boxes. The unique interior of the boxes makes sure that the houseplants stand firm in the box and cannot move. Houseplants don't mind being in a dark box for a day. This way, we make sure that your green friends are delivered to your home in tip-top shape.
