In the rainforests, the orchid is actually an epiphytic plant, which means that they are not rooted in the ground. This also means that they get their nutrients from the air. But nothing could be further from the truth: the orchid is an easy houseplant to care for! Once you have found the right spot for this tropical friend, you will be able to enjoy its beautiful colour and flowers often and for a long time! 

Water requirements for the Pink Orchid

As mentioned before, the Pink Orchid is an easy houseplant, so it doesn't need much water or water often. However, the way of watering is a little different than with other houseplants. Make sure the orchid doesn't come into direct contact with the water. If you water your Pink Orchid with a watering can, make sure the water only gets to the ground and not to the stem or the flowers/leaves. The best way to water the Pink Orchid is to take the root ball out of the pot and place it in a bowl of water. Make sure the root ball is not more than 4 centimetres under water. Let the Pink Orchid absorb the water for 5 to 10 minutes and then let it drain thoroughly for 15 minutes. This prevents a layer of water from forming at the bottom of the pot.
