Ficus owes its nickname 'the Tobacco Plant' to its history where its leaves were used for cigars. When you buy this topper, chances are the houseplant will drop some leaves in the beginning. But don't panic, this is simply because it needs to get used to its new environment.
Ficus Bambino is an easy houseplant to maintain. However, this air-purifying houseplant is sensitive to new environments. Should Ficus grow to one side, do not move the plant all at once but turn it a little every day. This is because in case of major changes, the plant may drop its leaves. A spray will benefit the Ficus' leaves. The dust and possible pests will not get a chance this way.
Always keep the soil of this green houseplant slightly moist. In the beginning, give the plant small amounts of water several times. After a while, you will know approximately how much water the plant needs. The amount of water varies per plant.
Ficus Bambino loves daylight, so it prefers a bright spot close to a window. The Tobacco Plant also needs daylight to grow. If Ficus stands in a place that is too dark, it will not develop new leaves.
Unfortunately, Ficus' leaves are toxic to pets and children. Ingestion of the plant is not recommended as it can cause irritated bumps and red skin. The juice contained in the plant can cause skin irritation. So be careful with this plant if you have children or pets.
