The Dischidia Geri is becoming increasingly popular and for good reason. Originally this hanging houseplant comes from Asia and is related to the Asclepiadaceae.
In the Netherlands this houseplant is also called "dime plant". This name he owes to his thick round leaves. The Dischidia Geri is an epiphyte, so actually this plant grows on other plants, such as: trees or tree branches. In a living or other room, the Dischidia Geri will not be able to grow on other plants but don't worry. When you take care of the Dischidia Geri correctly it will become just as beautiful as in nature.
Because it is a hanging houseplant it is a real eye-catcher, but because of its special leaves you can say that it really is a trendy houseplant!
Care & tips Dischidia Geri
This houseplant is in terms of care really not the hardest! It is a fast grower and it may happen that its branches become too long. When this happens, you can safely cut them off to the desired length. With the right care, the Dischidia Geri can spontaneously start flowering. There are no specific flowering periods. You will see small white flowers appear. It is also not said that every Dischidia Geri will bloom, which is perhaps better because the flowers have a strong odor!
Water requirements of the Dischidia Geri
As mentioned, the Dischidia Geri is not a difficult plant in terms of care, this also applies to watering. The leaves of this houseplant are quite thick and this ensures that the Dischidia Geri does not need much water. We recommend you to repeatedly give small amounts of water so that the soil always dries up a little. It is better to skip one watering than to overwater. Because the Dischidia Geri is an epiphyte it is best to water it with a spray.
If you want to give your Dischidia Geri an extra boost you can mix some plant food into the water and give this to the Dischidia Geri.
Light requirements Dischidia Geri
This houseplant loves the necessary light. Give it a nice warm and light place but avoid the full sun. In the summer months the Dischidia Geri would also do well outside. Make sure the temperature does not drop below 15 degrees because the Dischidia Geri can't stand it. This houseplant is also not a fan of draught.
Is the Dischidia Geri a poisonous houseplant?
The Dischidia Geri is not a poisonous houseplant, in terms of location you do not have to take into account animals or small children. Probably this was already not a problem because the Dischidia Geri often hangs at height!
