Care & tips Calathea

The Calathea is not difficult to look after. Place the plant in a shady spot and it will soon be happy. Did you know that the Calathea is also called the prayer plant? The plant owes this nickname to the fact that it folds its leaves up at night, which resembles a praying hand. 

Water requirements for Calathea

The soil of the Calathea should always remain slightly moist. Do not water the plant too much as this can cause root rot. We advise you to feel this for each plant. Each plant is a living object and has its own needs. Feel deep into the soil with two fingers to determine whether it is dry or still wet from the previous time. Is it still wet? Then wait a little before watering again. The Calathea loves to be sprinkled weekly in order to keep the humidity high.

Calathea need of light

These green friends do not need much light to stay beautiful. In fact, Calathea's do very well in the shade. Direct sunlight can cause the leaves to shrivel, so make sure you avoid a lot of sunlight. 

Is the Calathea poisonous?

In general, Calatheas are not poisonous. Nevertheless, we advise you not to use the plants in food and to make sure your pet does not take a bite of it. Better safe than sorry! 

How will my Calathea be delivered?

This small houseplant will be delivered in a cultivation pot. All our plants are shipped in our specially designed shipping boxes! Because of the unique interior, the plants stand firm in the box and cannot move. Plants don't mind being in a dark box for a day. This way we make sure that your green friend is delivered to your home in tip-top shape.
