Strelitzias are known for the cracks in their leaves. This is a protective measure the plant has developed as it grows in coastal winds. By tearing the leaves, the Strelitzia prevents a whole branch from breaking off with each gust of wind. We recommend that you feed the Strelitzia in the summer months. It is best to do this from March to September. Outside this period, the plant is in a resting mode and plant food can be harmful.
