The Coconut palm, also known as Cocus Nucifera, is a wonderful addition to your living room. What plant can give you an even more Tropical vibe than one which grows straight from the coconut!?
Wow. What a pearl, the Cocus Nucifera or more simply 'the Coconut palm'. With its stem which grows straight out of the coconut, we cannot imagine a plant which would bring the tropics into your home more than the Coconut palm. The palm is not difficult to look after. Ideal if you're not planning on paying too much attention to your new green friend.
As stated earlier, the Coconut Tree - 150cm is not difficult to look after. However, due to its origins in the tropics it does need a slightly higher humidity than others. Make sure that the palm is not exposed to any draughts and that you water the leaves regularly in order to simulate its original habitat.
The Coconut Tree - 150cm can be watered when you see that the soil has dried out. Make sure that the water has not sunk into the bottom and accumulated here. This can cause the roots to rot and the palm will probably not survive. It is best to feel the soil with two fingers to determine whether it is dry or still has enough water in it. If the soil is still wet then wait a little before watering. The Coconut palm will not appreciate too much water and this could be the beginning of the end for the palm. If the soil is dry at a deeper level, it's time to water. Spray the leaves regularly to keep the humidity level high.
Although the Coconut Tree - 150cm originates from the tropics, it does not tolerate too much direct sunlight. The palm prefers a light spot, without too much direct and hot sunlight. This can cause the leaves to burn, and as the plant does not have very many leaves there is not much left when they fall out from burning. The palm can also be placed outside in the summer. Make sure that you do not forget to bring it inside again when the temperature drops below 15 degrees Celsius.
No, like most palm species, the 150cm Coconut Palm is fortunately not poisonous.
