Originally, the Calathea plant comes from the tropical rainforests of South America. In these rainforests the plants grow in the shadow of trees and other large plants. For this reason the Calatheas are also called 'Shadowplants'. These houseplants really seem to 'live'. In the evening the Calathea Network folds its leaves in order to unfold them again in the morning at the first rays of light.

The Calathea Network is a tropical houseplant that is fairly easy to take care of. However, the plant does need the right location to remain beautiful. The Calathea Network is not called the 'Shadowplant' for nothing. This houseplant is not a fan of sunlight. So it is ideal to fill up a dark corner in your room. Also take into account the humidity for this houseplant. Due to its tropical origins, it will not survive well in low humidity.

Water requirements Calathea Network - 45cm

The Calathea Network needs a little tepid water 2 to 3 times a week. It is important that the potting soil always remains slightly moist. We advise you to give small amounts several times to prevent a layer of water staying at the bottom of the pot. We advise you to water this houseplant at least once a week. By watering the leaves, you ensure that there is a higher level of humidity around the plant. This will benefit the health and development of new leaves.

Light requirements for Calathea Network - 45cm

As mentioned, this houseplant does not like direct or too much sunlight. From spring to autumn, it is best to place the Calathea Network in a spot in the semi-shade. In the winter months, you can move this houseplant to a slightly lighter spot, but still without direct sunlight. 

Is the Calathea Network - 45m poisonous?

The Calathea Network is not poisonous when touched. Nevertheless we recommend you not to consume this plant or to use it in food.
