This beautiful Calathea species is a member of the Marantaceae family. This family originates mainly in the subtropics of Brazil. The Calathea is also called the 'living plant' or the 'prayer plant'. The Calathea owes this nickname to the fact that its leaves fold back in the evening, pointing upwards like a praying hand. As if the Calathea did not have enough nicknames yet, there is a third. The Calathea is also called the 'Shadow plant' because it likes a shady spot.
Care & tips Calathea Compactstar - 95cm
The Calathea Compactstar is very easy to care for. However, it is not for nothing that the Calathea is also called the 'Shadow plant'. Water requirements for Calathea Compactstar - 95cm
The Calathea likes to stand in slightly moist soil at all times. We recommend that you give small amounts several times to prevent a layer of water from staying at the bottom of the pot, as this can cause root rot. It is possible that your Calathea gets calcium stains, so give the plant rainwater or boiled water. The spots will disappear by themselves. We also advise you to water your Calathea at least once a week. By spraying the leaves you will create a higher humidity around the plant. This will benefit its health and development. When the leaves hang or curl, this is a sign of a shortage of water. In this case, it is best to water the plant more often.
