The Beaucarnea originally comes from South America and can grow up to 8 metres high in the wild! The nickname of this houseplant is Elephant's Foot, which it owes to the tuber at the bottom of its stem. Its branched stem and lanceolate leaves make it a striking appearance and an addition to any room.
The Beaucarnea is easy to care for, partly because of the clod at the bottom of the trunk. Just like camels, the Beaucarnea stores water and other nutrients in the clod at the bottom of the stem. This houseplant can therefore do without water for a reasonably long time and is the ideal plant for every room. It is advisable to spray the Beaucarnea from time to time so that the dust is removed from the leaves. However, watering for humidity is not necessary as Beaucarnea feels quite at home in a reasonably dry environment.
As the tubers absorb water, Beaucarnea needs less water than other houseplants. From March to August you can give the Beaucarnea a little more water than in the winter. Let the soil dry out a little before watering again. Do not overwater as this can cause root rot.
This houseplant is not the most difficult plant to place. A light location with three to four hours of sunlight a day would be perfect. If the location is too dark, the growth of new leaves will stop. Have you not seen any new leaves for a while? Then move the Beaucarnea to a slightly lighter spot.
The Beaucarnea is not poisonous. Therefore you do not have to worry about the location.
This special houseplant will be sent in a pot. All our houseplants are sent in specially designed boxes. Because of the unique interior of the boxes, the houseplants are firmly placed in the box and cannot move. Houseplants don't mind being in a dark box for a day. This way, we make sure that your green friends are delivered to your home in tip-top shape.
