Product description
Aspidistra elatior originates in the Far East, in the mountainous regions of Japan and Taiwan. Here the plant grows mainly as a ground cover. In English, this houseplant is also called the 'Cast Iron Plant'. The plant owes this to its indestructible properties. But in the Netherlands its (sober) nickname is the quarter plant.
Care & tips Aspidistra elatior - 30cm
The quarter plant is indestructible, a perfect plant to fill up your shady corner. The plant has very thick leaves and therefore does not evaporate much moisture.
Water requirements Aspidistra elatior - 30cm
The Aspidistra elatior needs little water. It is sufficient to look after this plant once a week. Before watering, feel if the soil is still moist. If it is, you can wait a few days before watering. This (almost) indestructible plant is sensitive to too much water. If its leaves turn yellow or pale in colour, this is a sign that the soil is too wet. If this happens, remove the plant from the pot and cut off the affected parts. The healthy part of the plant can simply be put back into the dry potting soil.
Light requirements Aspidistra elatior - 30cm
The quartered plant originally grows on the ground in forests and is therefore used to shady spots. The best place for this plant is in the shade but with plenty of daylight. The colour of the plant will lighten if it gets too much light.
Is the Aspidistra elatior - 30cm poisonous?
The quarter plant is not poisonous. In the Far East the leaves are even used to present food. The leaves themselves are not eaten.
