The Alocasia Portadora originates from the tropical jungles of South-East Asia and with its special appearance, it will immediately draw attention in any room. This houseplant has fresh green, frayed leaves that you do not often come across. The plant was given the nickname 'Elephant Ear' because of the shape of the leaves, which is reminiscent of a large ear. 

Care & tips Alocasia Portadora - 50cm

The plant originates from a tropical environment and likes it when the air is a little more humid. To imitate this, it is good to spray the plant regularly. This will prevent unwanted visits from aphids to your Elephant's Ear.

Take care! It is possible that the plant will leak some moisture onto the soil. Do not worry, this is called guttation and is a normal characteristic of the plant.

Water requirements for Alocasia Portadora - 50cm

Due to its origin, the plant is used to sufficient moisture. Make sure, therefore, that the potting soil is always moist but absolutely not wet. Watering once a week is sufficient in the beginning. Check whether the soil is still moist more often and add a little water if necessary.

Light requirements for Alocasia Portadora - 50cm

The Elephant Ear will become a beautiful, healthy plant when placed in a light spot without direct sunlight. If the plant grows towards the light, it will not get enough light. In this case, move the plant to a lighter location. We advise against placing this plant in direct sunlight, as this will cause its leaves to burn.

Is the Alocasia Portadora - 50cm poisonous?

In Southeast Asia, the leaves of the Alocasia Portadora are used in various dishes. However, this should be done in the right way because the sap of this plant can cause irritations on the skin. We therefore advise against consuming Alocasia. Also be careful with pets and small children.
